JUNE 2005
LIFE IN MEXICO Since returning to Mexico on May 19 we have been subtly attacked by the enemy. First, we were rear-ended while sitting at a red light. Neither Jeff, Sherlock nor myself were injured but the back of the Trooper was severely damaged. The guy who hit us tried to leave but I stood in front of his car and PTL it wouldn’t start. After a few hours at the police station our mechanic arrived to access the damage and the man who hit us was able to pay for all our damages and his fines. If he had not been able to pay for everything both our cars would have been impounded until the magistrate could hear the case. No insurance companies were ever involved! The car has now been repaired and is better than ever. We are so thankful that the Lord gave us victory in this situation. Secondly, he has attacked my health; I have been having times of weakness and lack of energy, wanting to sleep a lot. My blood sugar shot up to over 400 and a course of insulin is slowly bringing it back down. Please continue to pray for my health, that the enemy would be thwarted in his attacks against Jeff and me.
TRANSITIONS Jeff and I celebrated our 23rd anniversary on June 12 by attending “The Battle of the Marching Bands”. Five schools competed for prizes of musical instruments and they all played exceedingly well. It was an enjoyable morning. For the last month we have had a young 18 year old lady living with us, Dilean Barabatta. She will finish school here in Cordoba then return home to finish her last year of school. During her time with us she has been going through some changes and growing in the Lord. Please pray for her continued focus and growth in the Lord. We are currently transitioning from hot season to rainy season. After all the heat we welcome the rain since it cools things off! We are also preparing to receive our summer groups: two from Greensboro, NC – Clifton Road Baptist and Living Way Christian Fellowship; and Grace Church from Florida. Pat Mandeville and David Kilkenny, from LaPort, IN will spend a month with us helping out with the groups. Please pray for the safety of all the groups and for our endurance! CHURCH BUILDING We continue construction on 2 churches here in Veracruz: Campo Grande and San Rafael Caleria. For pictures of these churches go to the Projects button on this web site. These churches will be quite different because they will have baptismal tanks which the other churches can use to fulfill this commandment of Christ. We recently finished pouring the roof in S.R. Caleria using a cement truck, which has never been used before in this zone. We expect to finish both projects by the mid-August. Please pray for the safety of the workers and Jeff on these churches. The Earl Kellum Memorial Conference Center and Bible Institute has made good progress with Mexican work groups coming once a month. We expect more progress as the summer groups arrive. In July work will get kicked in to high gear as preparations are made for the annual convention of 300+ churches. We are always on the look out for new churches to build to keep up the momentum. Our next project will be in Tetelzingo. This church was built by Earl Kellum many many years ago and is now jam packed with believers. We expect to begin construction in September. |
